Hurry up! The play ..... (start) in ten minutes.
Present Simple.
Presen Continius.
Present Continuous

We’re having a party, remember? -- The party starts at 8.
- scheduled actions (transport+events+programs+agendas+itineraries):The train leaves in 10 min.
The concert starts at 6.
We arrive at the destination on Monday, have a tour of the city on Tuesday and leave on Friday.
- fixed future arrangements и firm decisions:I’m leaving in 10 min.
He’s having a party at 6, remember?
There's no way they are having a party in my house! This ugly picture isn’t staying here!
Но логично, что когда от воли человека ничего не зависит, он воспринимается как ‘another cog in the machine’:
Sarah starts work on Monday.

Continuous же обычно предполагает субъект, наделённый волей, поэтому логичнее встретить его в контексте вроде they are starting a new play next month.

game starts in,game is starting in

Hurry up!
