An Announcement
You, who have neither peace nor rest, being really wicked,
The entrance charge to hell on earth is reasonably small.
And there's so little time left to decide on ordering the ticket,
For any minute now we may announce last call.
The door gets blocked then - if someone failed to get it -
And those who have not paid shall bitterly regret it.

The entrance charge to hell on earth is reasonably small.
And there's so little time left to decide on ordering the ticket,
For any minute now we may announce last call.
The door gets blocked then - if someone failed to get it -

Good Riddance
Whatever you may offer me
Will not be nearly half enough for me
To promise you unwaveringly
That I'll act in return so willingly
As you await it, maybe, rather longingly.
So, does it matter what you have to promise me,
As long as you no longer want to be with me,
Which thing, despite what you may really think of me,
Is perfectly all right with me!?
Whatever you may offer me
Will not be nearly half enough for me
To promise you unwaveringly
That I'll act in return so willingly
As you await it, maybe, rather longingly.
So, does it matter what you have to promise me,
As long as you no longer want to be with me,
Which thing, despite what you may really think of me,
Is perfectly all right with me!?

Is it the hatred turned to love?
Or is it the love that's gotten full of hatred?
The past is not what I may ever let blank out,
And having let it stay with me, I'd hate to ever fail it,
But rather wish that those times, now long passed,
Feel anything for me, but not embarrassed.

When one and their grandkids start to get along too well,
The reason for that may be found in those with whom they have to dwell.
Indeed, the old one and the youngest ones are doomed to interact with those
Who - damned be the generation gap!- are just regarded as their common foes.
Inspired by Sam Levenson's quote I just сhanced upon:

I need to write another line,
This line should be a good and fine.
It gives me strength to live and glad,
It's called poetry in the blood.

LOL! Do keep writing rhymes - at least for the mere fun of it!sherlockholmes пишет: ↑09 июн 2022, 09:51 or not, i don't know
i'm, bad Emblish-speaker, but i write
I badly need to write at least a rhyme a day
And I don't care 'bout what somebody may say
About the grammar, rhythm, or meter of the verse
Which with considerable effort I compose.
As long as I enjoy the fun of mere rhyming,
Damn be the grammar rules and other suchlike things, more negligibly trifling!

alex789, thank you very much.
To me, just to know that someone may feel like having a look at any of my poetic trifles, alone is quite an active encouragement to go on playing with rhymes. A positive comment makes the encouragement stronger and the fun of composing rhymes yet greater.

You bet! Why would I quit doing anything that's a genuine amusement to me )))

If someone says to you: "Your written English, like, grates on the ear",
Tell them to plug that freaking ear with a cotton ball
And start to read with eyes (with ears we hear),
Or not to read, at least aloud, your written stuff at all.

The silly idea of this no less silly short verse came to my mind when I saw a comment where a Russian EL learner suggested that his interlocutor (a Russian, too) stop writing in English which he called "Runglish that badly grates on the ear". What comes to mind is "the pot calling the kettle black", isn't it?
I think that to be, once in a while, tactfully corrected can't harm anyone, particularly when it's being done by those highly reputable (forumers) whose amazing command of English is both enviable and unattainable. But isn't it just exasperating to have your writing skills snobbishly, much less publicly, denounced by someone whose superior writing skills have not been ever displayed anywhere, this forum included?

acapnotic, didn't I say it was just a silly verse? I did have my doze of lighthearted fun while composing it. So, what more could one, then bored to death, wish for? :-) Of course, "your Runglish grates on the ear" is okay, but sounds rather rude and extremely patronizing, doesn't it?

A Blind Date
They walked through the park on a hot summer evening.
Their future relations were at their very beginning.
"Fine weather," said he to strike up a conversation.
"Too cool for July," she replied (with a yawn) in negation.
"You care for an ice-cream or something?" he asked nonchalantly.
"I've got a sore throat and diabetes," she replied rather bluntly.
Coming up to the park lake where boats could be hired
He suggested a boat ride - she said she got tired.
"Then what are we up to?" he exclaimed, somewhat distressed.
"I thought it was you," she said, "to be the first to have guessed."
Bewildered, he bent to her, trying a kiss on her cheek -
She flinched from him with a cry of a hurt, frightened chick.
Being watched by the passers-by, ashamed, he ran off:
'Twas not the experience he'd ever dreamed of.

My lord, I've had more than enough of this
Belligerent and pointless conversation.
You have your sword on you, don't you? So if you please,
We could resolve, once and for all, this ugly confrontation.
What?! Did I get you right that you are in no mood
To cross your steel with mine this fragrant summer morning?
The seconds?! Do you really need them? May I ask you, for what good
Since killing one another is the only thing we're desperately yearning?
The sword on you is not a dueling one, your lordship says?
A skillful subterfuge, indeed! How many more of them you have in store I wonder?
And what if I come close to you and publicly spit in your face,
Will the code duello rules be still what you'd not step beyond of?
O tempora, o mores! What a bore it was to have a scoundrel give you satisfaction
Right there and right then... In modern times it's much an easier work,
For having been insulted badly by someone, you just come up to them and clean their clock.

VictorB,
получилось :)
Но некоторым кое-где пришлось подумать прежде, чем повеселиться.
