I'm going to somehow follow into Mary May's footsteps and try to limit my writing to the confines of this blog.
I'm also going to make some comments about other forum posts that I find interesting, adding the links to the source posts, of course.

Juliemiracle пишет: 31 авг 2020, 21:09 I chose eternalhost.net. I used to have a free hosting on x10hosting.com, but it wasn't enough for me anymore.
If it is public + static site I'd recommend: https://firebase.google.com/docs/hosting

AWS + Google + Microsoft allow always free tier:

* https://cloud.google.com/free
* https://aws.amazon.com/free/
* https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/

I use small VPS from Google, it has downside that egress network traffic is limited to 1GB per month and then $0.085 / GiB. Like 11 GB will cost 8.5cents.
Juliemiracle пишет: 06 сен 2020, 18:41 These are called wellies informally
My Express picture dictionary mentioned them as "a pair of wellingtons". It was unusual word, wiki article is even more formal. Unusual because it is the dictionary "for young learners". So I'm less educated than youngsters ((

There are also mentioned: a pair of dungarees (decided not to memorize), a pair of jeans (why pair?), a pair of shorts (why pair?).

I am ashamed to know meronym but not eponym. Now I'll be smarter:

These three are also good examples of proprietary trademarks, or generic/genericised trademarks, that underwent what's called genericide. Such 'death' of trademarks is also known as commonisation, and such 'corpses of names' are also referred to as proprietary eponyms.

gavenkoa,
not sure I'm ready to migrate my site again in less than 30 days, especially during the semester, but I'm going to take a note of the hosting options you've mentioned in case I'm not satisfied with my current one.
gavenkoa пишет: 06 сен 2020, 20:40 a pair of jeans (why pair?), a pair of shorts (why pair?)
Because they're plural, so if you want to count them, you need to add sth. It's similar to adding a bottle (of water) to count uncountable nouns.

Yety,
I got it. I meant: if we talk about all company names (not only the names of ppl) that became common nouns, this category is SO huge in comparison with wellies-type words. Like a supercategory. Or so it seems.

This year, inspired by arborea, I'm trying to encourage my Ss to track their contacts with English outside our classroom. I've created a google chart with their names and weeks, and at the end of each of week I add things myself and urge them to do the same, no matter how small the effort may seem. The second idea behind this is sharing because you may follow other people's links if you're curious.
Of course, not so many Ss do this, but some do, and I'm delighted. I follow their links too, and it's great to be able to broaden my experience of different things people listen to and watch.
This video, for instance, put a big smile on my face:

First, I'm not a huge fan of cooking, but I like watching cooking shows now and again and learning the concepts of different dishes.
Secondly, I love all things British and was happy to see so many British dishes. I knew all the names, but haven't tried most of them personally (yet). However, two of them (sheperd's pie and scotch eggs) are on the list of things I sometimes cook myself :)
And last but not least, the film mentioned in the video - 'Calendar Girls' - made me walk down the memory lane. I remember going to see it at the cinema with my academic group: a cinema showing a film in English at that time - that was sth extraordinary, so we rushed to see it. It was hard to understand and a lot of plot details are lost now, but this was the first time probably when I saw and instantly fell in love with Helen Mirren.
So, the initiative is definitely there to stay for a while :)

А сегодня изумился train - шлейф (тряпки, волочащиеся по земле у свадебных платьев).
gavenkoa (New words you find interesting, useful, etc. ))
And then we get the language metaphor: lose one's train of thought.
That's how languages grow and develop without creating new entities :)
Language metaphor is one of my favourite ways of enriching the vocab of a language - I find it infinitely elegant.

gavenkoa (Списки частотности фразовых глаголов и идиом.)
Idioms can also be divided into high-frequency and low-frequency ones.
You can already learn use such things as 'give sb food for thought' or 'take a rain check on sth' (AmE).
But leave things like 'since time immemorial' or 'set the cat among the pidgeons' alone, at least now :)

I added more evidence that idioms are the subject for the higher level of textbooks:

gavenkoa (Списки частотности фразовых глаголов и идиом.) (with links to learning plans per level)
Мой опыт с УМК - фиксированые фразы со Starter (A1), Collocations - c Pre-intermediate (A2+, минуя Elementary A1-A2), Idioms Upper-Advanced (B2+). В Эккерсли 1книга (подозреваю А2), я особо идиом не видел.
Phrasal verbs occur in PreInter in the Speakout line. Some references separate phr.v from idioms.

I see there is a book for Intermediate level in a series "In use" for idioms though...

"Midsommer" - it's very popular with young people (it doesn't tickle my fancy at all though)
'Little women" (surprisingly, some people don't like her performance there)
"Lady Macbeth"...
She is described by some critics as "a chameleonlike star".

Yeah, I'd googled :) I know the films; it's just I didn't know about the actress as I haven't seen them.
I've accidentally saw another film by 'Midsommer''s director, so thanks, but no, thanks.
As for 'Little Women', I don't know why but I don't want to watch it. Maybe I treasure the older version with Bale, Dunst and Rider too much, or maybe I need to wait for the right mood…

It's World Teachers' Day tomorrow.
And I'd like to thank a lot of my teachers for contributing to the fact that I am what I am: a teacher as well. There have been many good ones: my high-school English teacher, some of my uni professors, loads of people on the old and new forum, some teachers whose blogs/books I'm reading or webinars I'm watching (even though they don't know about it :) The list is endless...
I've said before that I wear a set of inspiration bracelets, and one of them reads: TEACH ENCOURAGE GUIDE INFLUENCE INSPIRE because this is what some great teachers of mine did and I strive to be like them.
