Opinion Essays.
Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
While it is believed that governments should give more preference to railways over roads when allocating a country’s budget, I totally disagree with this point of view.
The first reason to spend more resources on roads than on railways is that roads are used much more often by the population, whereas trains are usually utilized only several times a year. Therefore, having better roads would have a higher impact on improving the quality of life for the majority of people who use them on a daily basis for such purposes as commuting or shopping, as poor roads make a journey uncomfortable. In addition, they can also be dangerous because they may cause accidents which can damage vehicles and lead to injuries, while creating traffic jams. In order to avoid this, governments should spend enough resources on developing high-quality roads.
Another point to consider is that good roads are among the crucial factors for attracting tourists, especially the ones who prefer to explore new places by car. While planning a vacation, travelers often consider renting a vehicle or using their own car and then creating their own route, stopping at places where they would prefer to spend more time and following the schedule that seems optimal for them. Such an opportunity is not available while travelling by train, and, therefore, the quality of roads is a criterion that influences the development of tourism to a greater extent than the quality of railways does, thus promoting cultural exchange and contributing more to the economic development of communities.
To conclude, I believe that countries should spend more money on the improvement of roads rather than railways as this will have a more profound influence on both daily lives of local citizens and the quality of experience for visitors.

I'm not sure about the comma in front of 'as'. As a rule, if adverbial conjunctions are in the middle, we don't use a comma, but in your case it helps avoid amiguity (confuse it with 'as...as'), and there's one example with a comma in the Cambridge dictionary. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/as Still, I'd probably try to avoid such doubtful things at an exam.Belka_Teacher пишет: ↑06 авг 2020, 03:01 Therefore, having better roads would have a higher impact on improving the quality of life for the majority of people who use them on a daily basis for such purposes as commuting or shopping, as poor roads make a journey uncomfortable.

Some comments:
"in addition to what? to improving the quality of life?" - no, in addition to making a journey uncomfortable
"will positively affect both: the dally routine of locals and contribute / add value to visitors' experience" - then there's no comparison with trains
"for the life of me, I'll never understand how it's possible to express a proper well-reasoned opinion
in less than 300 words ..." - that's a struggle for me too, I usually write more and then have to spend time editing... But I've read that one can be punished for writing much more than 300 words.

OK, here's the edited version, is it better now?
While it is believed that governments should prioritize railways over roads when allocating a country’s budget, I totally disagree with this point of view.

besides, travellers is a British PC

Of course, because it shows your flexibility and syntactic range. Plus, a sentnece may be short but still complex (e.g. Neither would they). But it's so hard to keep all of this in mind when there's such a brutal time limit if you don't regularly have to practise all of those writing types.

roads are used for ... shopping - ?
higher impact on improving the quality of life - на сам процесс или на качество?
have a profound influence on the quality of experience - много слов

While planning a vacation, travellers often consider renting a vehicle or using their own car and then creating their own route. This allows them
Such an opportunity? This allows them to stop at places where they would prefer to spend more time and follow the schedule that seems optimal for them. Such an opportunity is not available
Ощущение, что Not only... Therefore, having better roads would have a higher impact on improving the quality of life for the majority of people. Not only do poor roads make a journey uncomfortable, but also

Лексика при этом тоже может получиться более емкой и относящейся к более высокому уровню (если, например, вместо planning a vacation и creating a route, написать planning an itinerary).Easy-Breezy English пишет: ↑06 авг 2020, 15:22 Основная проблема - длинные, перегруженные предложения с большим количеством повторов.

п. :)Juliemiracle пишет: ↑06 авг 2020, 15:40Of course, because it shows your flexibility and syntactic range. Plus, a sentnece may be short but still complex (e.g. Neither would they). Eager Beaver,
I think you can keep such a list at the edge of your mind but lightly. If you try to stick all the structures in anyway, it may ruin your coherence/cohesion/communicative achievement. You'll gain language-wise but will lose points for other criteria.

Are you sure of the meaning of 'itenerary'? Because I've just checked several monolingual dictionaries, and they seem to cover what you've written quite nicely by this very word. Juliemiracle, this is what Oxford dictionary tells us "a plan of a journey, including the route and the places that you visit". Cambridge "a list of places that you plan to visit on a journey:
The President's itinerary includes visits to Boston and New York."
So, it's mostly about exact PLACES you visit. It has nothing about WHEN to travel, with WHOM to travel, etc.
