Добрый день. Встретилась подобная фраза:
I visited so many beautiful places since I came to the USA.
Точка отсчёта - это приезд в США. Уже после этого человек посетил много красивых мест. По логике если что-то произошло ДО события в прошлом - это past perfect. Однако встретилось такое объяснение:
When since is used to talk about time, the verb in the main clause is usually in the present perfect or past perfect (simple or continuous) tense.
She had been acting in films since she was four.
I have been working on this project since the end of June.
It has been raining since morning.
Sometimes the simple present or simple past tense is also used.
Вопрос к преподавателям: здесь плавающее время и можно и Past Simple, и Past Perfect, или же, например, желательнее Past Simple? Если его, то почему?
времена в предложении при использовании since

А то она не гуглится. Только в варианте:
8. I visited so many beautiful places since I came to Utah. Before moving here, I have never heard of Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, or Canyonlands.

1 main clause: I've known her since...
In sentences with since (referring to time), we normally use present perfect and past perfect tenses in the main clause.
I've known her since 1980. (NOT I know her since ... )
We haven't seen Jamie since Christmas.
I was sorry when Jacky moved to America; we had been good friends since university days.

She doesn't come round to see us so much since her marriage.
Since last Sunday I can't stop thinking about you.

2 It's a long time since...
In British English, present and past tenses are common in the structure It is/was ... since ...
It's a long time since the last meeting.
It was ages since that wonderful holiday.
American English prefers perfect tenses in this structure.
It's been a long time since the last meeting.
It had been ages since that wonderful vacation.
3 since-clause: since we were at school
Since can be used as a conjunction of time, introducing its own clause. The tense in the since-clause can be perfect or past, depending on the meaning.
Compare:
- I've known her since we were at school together. I've known her since I've lived in this street.
- You've drunk about ten cups of tea since you arrived. You've drunk about ten cups of tea since you've been sitting here.
- We visit my parents every week since we bought the car. We visit my parents every week since we've had the car.

Я это всегда ощущал, что такие сочетания времен возможны, когда связь между предложением и указанием на точку отсчета после since как бы слегка ослаблена, как будто фраза после since стоит чуть особняком (как будто в скобках):
You're looking much better - since your operation.
И перфект здесь звучал бы избыточно. Но это личные домыслы.

Если допустить, что это предложение в какой-то ситуации legit, можно предположить, что здесь since приближается в своем значении к when:
I visited so many beautiful places since when I came to the USA.
Но это домыслы в двойне.

Нет. Логичный. Обычный. Это повествование в прошедшем времени. Соответственно Present Perfect в main clause переходит в Past Perfect. При этом в since clause остается Past Simple:

Jeremiah hadn't been around this part of town since he stole the liquor bottle from Mr. Al-Kuaji's store...since he was thrown in jail...since he was let out...since he quit the crew.

И понял его неправильно - из-за недостатка контекста(.
А ведь мог бы и более иллюстративный пример привести:

When since introduces an action or event at a point of time in the past, we can use the past simple or present perfect after since and the present perfect in the main clause:
They haven’t received any junk mail since they moved house.
They haven’t received any junk mail since they’ve moved house.
It’s been years since I rode a bike. (it’s = it has)
It’s been years since I’ve ridden a bike. (it’s = it has)
It’s years since I rode a bike. (it’s = it is)
It’s years since I’ve ridden a bike. (it’s = it is)
It’d been years since I’d ridden a bike. (it’d = it had)
It’s been years since … is more common in American English than It’s years since ….

When since introduces a state in the past that is still continuing in the present, we use a present perfect form of the verb after since and a present perfect form of the verb in the main clause:
Since I’ve been back at work, I’ve been feeling great.
Since I’ve been back at work, I’ve been feeling great.

had come и came ( в значении аориста ).
Обучно используется had come, ибо перфект ( ясно указывается что действие совершено) лучше подходит ибо уже И действие завершенно и уже есть результат пост действия
We arrived when the match finished -мы прибыли когда матч закончился
We arrived when the match had finished -мы прибыли когда УЖЕ закончился.
В последнем случае переводится тоже закончился, но добавляется УЖЕ.
Этим подчёркивается результат после завершения действия, а значит несколько сдвигается точка времени.
Но, дело в том, что past indefinite может иметь и перфектное значение
Как и в русском языке типа я пошел спать
I drank up -я выпил
Но, в данном случае since I came, если я уже давно приехал в США, а ведь если я УЖЕ посетил много мест, то это было не вчера, то различие между I came и I had come уже не так важны.
Просто I had come будет делать акцент на прибытии, а I came просто проинформирует.
Если нужно сказать именно о посещенных местах то I came более подходит.
