Да в принципе книги в оригинале лучше читать с высоким уровнем :-) Вы не согласны? Я со своим немецким уровня B1 с трудом продираюсь сквозь оригинальные книги - если не смотрю незнакомые слова, то понимаю только основное, без деталей и оттенков, а если смотрю - то никакого удовольствия от такого чтения не получаю.
Я согласна, что вполне просто пишет, структуры понятные и не сложные, но лексика попадается которую придется смотреть в словаре и весьма часто для полного понимания происходящего, шуток и т.п. понимание которых происходит на высоких уровнях. Для примера: unassailable, undiluted, versatile, concoct, daunting, anguish, perpetual...

Книги в оригинале бывают разного уровня. Для детей пишут довольно просто. Лично мне приятнее читать детские книги, чем адаптированные. Но это каждый решает для себя, многие охотно читают адаптированные книги.

Если это предел сложности лексики то книгу нельзя номинировать как для прочтения людям с высоким уровнем английского. Все слова кроме unassailable и concoct входят в Cambridge Learner's. То есть это не сложнее банального C2. Из этих двух только concoct лежит ниже моей границы обязательности но уже concoction лежит выше:

То есть человек с действительно высоким уровнем будет знать ВСЕ эти слова.

Прочитала The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society двух авторов (непростая судьба у книги) и после посмотрела фильм. Книга понравилась больше, чем фильм, в фильме практически оставлена только лав стори, а в книге много рассказывается об оккупации Гёрнзи во время WW2. Мне интересна эта тема, how the other half переживала события Второй мировой.

Am I the only one who has found this book disturbing?

Have you managed to muddle through Gravity's Rainbow? I've tried to read it twice; invariably put the book back on the bookshelf, having quit after 150 pages. In my view, it is turgid, jumping around its goofy tangents, utterly unreadable and definitely overhyped.
