Sort of... Not really. Just like this joke is not really funny, to put it mildly
This year’s winner was about vegetables with a reference to Tourettes, a neurological disorder.

Intended to provoke laughter, this "funniest joke" made me sadly wonder to what yet lower levels the sense of humor may degrade.
What did make me laugh, is reading an article saying that almost immediately after the "gag" was telecasted, the charity for people with Tourette's syndrome demanded its author's apologies. Truth be told, as far as the much-vaunted political correctness goes, I'm still not sure if it isn't one of the funniest inside jokes.

VictorB, isn't "floret" means "a small flower"? It is like he likes flowers that is why he shouts out 'broccoli' and 'cauliflower'
However, I cannot see the root "flower" in the word "broccoli" :(

It's not about the root of the veggies - It's about their... florets.Michelangelo пишет: ↑20 авг 2019, 13:27 However, I cannot see the root "flower" in the word "broccoli" :(

Yety, why, doesn't it mean that he just has some florets then? What is fun in having florets?

Those are universally hated veggies, so their names can be regarded as dirty words TS patients utter involuntarily,
the condition they're mostly famous for.

Nor can I, but broccoli has a mass or several masses of flower buds at the top.Michelangelo пишет: ↑20 авг 2019, 13:27 However, I cannot see the root "flower" in the word "broccoli"
Also, in BrE broccoli is large hardy cauliflower.

Btw, the synonym of floret is floweret (a diminutive flower)

The entertainment industry has been criticized for depicting those with Tourette syndrome as social misfits whose only tic is coprolalia, which has furthered stigmatization and the public's misunderstanding of those with Tourette's.[123] The coprolalic symptoms of Tourette's are also fodder for radio and television talk shows in the US[124] and for the British media.[125]

It's because for Russians "uttering dirty words involuntarily" is a normal state, not any kind of "syndrome". ))
