In a situation like that, by giving her a translation, you implicitly acknowledge what she said, which encourages her to behave more like that in the future. Also it may be not enough to remind what the word means. If you studied that word before, I suppose you gave them some examples how that word is used (i.e. most common collocations). So you can use one of them as a test now. For example, you can ask her how to say "Шторм не нанес больших повреждений" in English. But if you give ready translations of individual words, you should not surprise that many students may not remember them even a few minutes later -- easy come, easy go. This may be fine though for some rare words that you don't expect them to remember anyway.
