Found this recently )

With Reece and Jerry dead, everybody was down and pissed. All they’d talked about since last night was finding that jack o lantern guy. The only laugh they’d had all day was when they learned that Reece’s real name was Maurice.

It's about hooligans sitting and planning on how to revenge 'that jack o lantern guy'. Also, I remembered this:

What Stanwyk doesn't realize is that I am the great hotshot young reporter, I. M. Fletcher of the News-Tribune, who so dislikes his first names, Irwin Maurice, that ...

Thus the question ) Urbandictionary was of no help. Are there some connotations like in the Russian 'Pete' or something? )

Perhaps because many girls are also called Maurice;
it's also of French origin (from Latin of course) and anything French is bad by definition.
