Слишком знаком с абсурдом. Я уже и забыл про Воннегута, Кафку и всяких латиноамериканских Борхесов. Странные вещи должны быть *изысканно* странными, что бы удовлетворить вкусы ((

I learned many spoken words and phrases from this book. The first one that comes to mind is 'to gatecrash a party'.Michelangelo пишет: ↑07 авг 2019, 09:56 Вообще, один друг настаивал, что это классная книга для чтения для начала чтения - типа современная несложная лексика. Реально там напичкано какими-то выдуманными словами, которых не существует в словарях и можно только угадывать их значения. И в чем современность такой надуманной лексики я так и не понял.

Juliemiracle, thank you for your reply.
For example, I don't know where I can use the aforesaid phrase. There was time when I tried to learn some phrases from books, but eventually it turned out that I couldn't keep them in my mind as I couldn't even get an idea where I could use them.
Frankly speaking, I am not sure that I can understand spoken words in our language. I have got used to talking in more or less formal language, however, using sometimes informal words like I do here on the forum. Actually I speak like I write here :)
When I said that I was suggested reading this book to learn spoken language, I meant that sci-fi is not something that we discuss every day, right?
Of course there are some valuable words and phrases but you really need to have a very good memory to remember them for long time. I prefer learning something more common so that I could use it in more or less formal situation. It is difficult to explain. It is like that man from the parallel topic who refuses to use small talk, but speaks in long sentences. I believe I behave somehow similarly.
Let's agree to disagree. That man who is a British man told me that he had been told by Russians that that book was good for studying the language, however, he didn't read it himself. When I asked him to read at least a couple of pages, he confessed that he couldn't understand some sentences himself and he would have experienced some difficulties reading such a book. Therefore I asked him why he suggested that I should have read it, and he just said that he believed his Russian friends and that was why. It is complicated and it doesn't matter. If you like it - it is good for you. I cannot say the same about myself. I prefer something more classical. And again - it is difficult as I am always looking for something that other people read and suggest me to read, I don't have any idea of my own what is better to read. Sometimes I like the book I am reading, sometimes it is boring even though my friends liked it.
Let me stop at this point. I will never explain I guess. You will never believe that I tried hard to explain how I feel about the books. I have always taken books as material for learning something, but eventually I found out that I couldn't learn much, I just have spent time. However, ultimately, I believe that most of my knowledge is from books as I haven't had many other sources to study and to learn. Good luck!
(I am sorry for mistakes I have made - as you can see even upon reading a number of books I still cannot recall standard phrases and sometimes misuse words).

Jay O. Sanders.

Я читал на украинском, валялся под столом все книгу. Не раз перечитывал.
Потому хочу на английском как дорасту.
Его другой рассказ "Что-то случилось" - *совсем* другой. Куча сексуальных переживаний и мещанства. Потому Catch-22 - это уникальное явление.

Почему "Listen to the radio", а не "Listen to a radio".
