Правила

Главное правило - писать на изучаемом языке КАЖДЫЙ ДЕНЬ 100 дней подряд, пусть даже совсем немного.
Участвовать можно всем, с любым уровнем языка.
Писать можно на любом изучаемом вами языке. Если их несколько, можете писать на нескольких.
Если ваш язык не английский, то в самом начале своего поста указывать тег #названиеязыкамаленькимибукваминарусском, например, для итальянского #итальянский.
Сам текст начинать с новой строки.
Если вы по каким-либо причинам опоздали на начало челенджа, вы можете спокойно присоединиться к текущим темам. Пропущенные темы вы сможете наверстать после окончания челенджа. Как? Пока не решила. Посмотрим в процессе.
ТЕКСТЫ МОГУТ БЫТЬ ДАЖЕ ДЛИНОЙ В 2 ПРЕДЛОЖЕНИЯ, если пока ваш уровень или другие обстоятельства не позволяют писать больше. Если вы можете писать больше - отлично!
Каждое воскресенье в 8:00 МСК в этой ветке форума 100 дней языка (100 дней языка) мной будет вывешиваться список тем на следующую неделю. Список будет содержать темы на всю неделю, каждый пункт списка соответствует одному дню.
Список тем будет на русском языке. Вы должны будете перевести вопрос на свой язык самостоятельно.
Вы можете предлагать свои темы в этой ветке форума 100 дней языка (100 дней языка). Возможно, мы сможем использовать самые интересные из них в будущем.
Каждый день в 8:00 МСК будет появляться новая тема в разделе «Practice Your English”, которая будет называться «100 дней языка: день 1» и т.д. для размещения ваших работ.
В каждой ветке дня челенджа темы недели будут для вашего удобства продублированы в первом посте.
Если вы по каким-либо причинам не успели написать заданную тему в срок, у вас будет 3 дня, чтобы наверстать упущенное. На четвёртый день в 8:00 МСК тема будет закрыта и вы не сможете ничего в ней добавить.
Чтобы чьи-то идеи и тексты, которые успели выложить раньше вас в теме, не мешали вам писать, вы можете сделать это где-то в другом месте в электронном виде, а потом просто скопировать их в нужную тему.
По желанию вы можете разместить под спойлер полезную информацию для других: например, список слов и выражений по теме, советы по написанию и т.д. Представляете, если каждый напишет что-то полезное по теме, сколько всего полезного будет доступно для всех! Так мы сможем помогать друг другу!
Поскольку 100 дней это на 2 дня больше 14-ти недель, для порядка эти два дня будут прикреплены к первой неделе. Поэтому начали мы в субботу 10.03.2018 года.
Преподаватели, а также участники форума с хорошими знаниями языка могут комментировать тексты и помогать исправлять ошибки. При этом необходимо использовать цитирование сообщения участника челенджа для удобства. Просьба делать это вежливо, не оскорбляя чувства участника челенджа.
Челендж начался 10.03.2018 года и продлится ровно 100 дней до 17.06.2018 года включительно. Это 14 недель и 2 дня ✊

Do you read paper magazines and newspapers? Which ones?

It's been many years I conventionally read “Vocrug Sveta” magazine. During this time I’ve met very interesting and dull issues. That is only one paper magazine which I buy constantly although its price is a bit high for me. Maybe twice a year I buy “Burda” for sewing some clothes. And I have several сooking magazines in different languages. I use them for learning languages and cooking, of course. When I was much younger than today I used to get crazy about print media and read a lot of it. I didn’t have the Internet that time! Now the print media hasn’t got such attractive power upon me.

Do you read print magazines and newspapers?

I read only the news and reports on the Internet. The main reason is the news on the Internet are faster. I'd like to learn about important events right now. When the printed newspaper are coming, I've already known the news. Secondly, printed issues aren't interactive. You can't comment on them. Sometimes you can gather true information more in the comments than in the publication. Comments are really useful. And thirdly, there isn't audio or video in print papers. For these reasons I prefer to read newspapers and magazines on-line.

Should I “tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth”?
If yes, my answer is “no, I don’t”.
First of all, because I don’t like newspapers.
Secondly, because there isn’t much room on my bookshelves for magazines.
Thirdly, because it’s quite expensive to buy magazines I interested in and pay for delivery.
And finely, I am short of time. May be as well as most of you, dear readers :) ;)

Do you read paper magazines and newspapers?

Yes, I do read one paper magazine. Every month I buy a small version of «Сaravan of stories». I enjoy reading stories about our actors and actresses, about their so called triumphs and disasters. I believe it is quite curious!
Also I have got two issues of the journal called «Vanity fair». My boss brought them back from New York as a souvenir. It’s been nearly two years since I was going to read them)

I don’t read print magazines and newspapers. It’s too expensive for me. I read articles only on the Internet. Generally I like long stories. So I read books.

I almost don't read paper magazines and newspapers now. But I used to buy a lot of them when I was a teenager. These were magazines mainly about celebrities and fashion. I also read magazines about computer games, science and geography. Nowadays I only read internet versions magazines like 'Vokrug sveta', 'National geographic' and 'Mir fantastiki'.

As a matter of fact no, I don't read any paper magazines or newspapers. Moreover, I don't read any online either. I used to read newspapers when I was living with my parents and my father always brought a fresh newspaper on weekends. And I read a lot of magazines in a local library. When I was a teenager I had occasional magazines bought by myself or borrowed from friends. Most of those magazines were about computers, computer games and other similar stuff. And nowadays I read mostly books or articles on the internet on the topics of my professional area. Yeah, that's it pretty much.

Write about whether or not you read any paper journals, magazines or newspapers. If yes, then which ones.

When I had perfect eyesight I prefer reading paper sources to computer screens. However, since some time I have started to read from the screen more. Saying about magazines, newspapers and journals – I have forgotten when last I read any of them. Before I obtained a computer, I try to find some newspapers in English and read some articles within my studying English efforts, however, reading newspapers has been a challenge for me as compared with simple popular books. Therefore I mostly read books even back then.
Russian or Ukrainian newspapers I stopped reading after I ceased my membership in comsomol. When I was a member, it was obligatory to subscribe to a newspaper, and of course I had to read at least some articles not to waste my money completely. After taking off this obligation I was happy not to read anything at all. Maybe a newspaper is a source of information, however, our newspapers like many others all around the world have been a source of propaganda, that is why I haven’t like reading newspapers since my childhood.

Magazines were something different. You could find some interesting stories or pieces of advice in such magazines as Vokrug Sveta, Youny Technik, Tourist, etc. You could read some scientific facts (however, with a Ohorod. Yes, I read them before and even I didn’t take advantage of pieces of advice therein I enjoyed reading grain of propaganda as well) in such journals like Nauka and Religia, Chemistry and Life, or Sad and some articles.

I think it isn’t necessary to dig into details and spend time in vain attempts to recall what exactly I read in those magazines and journals, however, I have to mention that after the dissolution of the Soviet Union I started to read crosswords magazines more and I have learnt a lot of new Russian words from them which helped me in studying English words. Eventually after making English my hobby I forgot about Russian and Ukrainian sources of reading completely. Now I am reading mostly English literature or textbook. This is how my reading has come to an end.

La verdad es que no, no los leo. Además, no leo ningunos en línea. Leía los periódicos cuando vivía con los padres y mi padre siempre traía un periódico fresco por los fines de semana. También leía muchas revistas en una biblioteca local. Cuando era adolescente de vez en cuando compraba las revistas o las sacaba de los amigos. La mayoría de las revistas fue sobre los ordenadores, juegos del computador y otras cosas parecidas. Y hoy en día leo principalmente los libros o los artículos del internet en temas de mi área prefesional.

Despite my love to reading, I rarely read papers magazines and newspapers. I used to buy some when I was a student but now I prefer electronic versions. Though I like the smell of new magazines or newspapers I think it'll be more environment-friendly not to buy them. It was always a problem for me - what to do with waste paper (still it is, to be honest) as it's really hard to find a paper recycling organization in my town.

Do you like getting news from printed versions of magazines and newspapers? If yes, what sort of magazines and newspapers do you prefer?

People this days prefer surfing the Internet when searching essential information rather than reading paper magazines and newspapers because it's easier and more convenient way to look for information. You don't need to spend a lot of time skimming through pages in an attempt to find what you need.
Moreover, I'm anxious about deforestation. Vast amounts of forests have been cutting down to get paper and people give them no time to recover. It's leading to mass extinction of species and contaminating our habitat.
On the other hand, we are reading not only to get information but also for enjoyment. Glossy and colourful pages, when you look through them It's like you dive into something magic and all the world fades away around you.
To conclude, I used to read paper magazines and newspaper in the past, but now I prefer surfing the Internet.

I don't read paper magazines and newspapers. If I need some information, I prefer to surf the Internet. When I was younger, I used to read glossy magazines, but then I realized it had been a complete waste of time and money.

I don't buy paper magazines very often nowadays since the ones I'm interested in cost a fortune, but sometimes I just can't resist the temptation of a National Geographic; and I would definitely buy every single issue of Vokrug sveta if I could get my hands on it in the country where I live. I still prefer paper to the online editions, however convenient they might be - I'm a hoarder by nature and I'd rather have the things I like in a tangible form.

esperanza, I am a fan of Vokrug Sveta, too. Maybe one day I can send you a big parcel with my collection of issues of this magazine. It's really superb!

I must admit that I also enjoy reading women's magazines, you know, Cosmopolitan and the like. I usually do so when I'm rather tired and just want to relax. However, there's one that has some intelligent articles on engaging topics like psychology, travelling, decor and the like. It's called Zhenskiy Zhurnal. Unfortunately, it is generally hard to get. I'm even thinking of subscribing to it, as finding it in shops is somewhat of a challenge. Though it is a Ukrainian brand, I prefer it over international brands of such magazines, as I find it much more intelectually challenging, and not just crap literature (in either meaning).

There is more convenient to take some magazines on the road because of their little weight and compactness. I don't like to read with a smartphone but tablet or laptop are very big for my casual bag. In addition, I have poor eyesight and reading with paper is most preferred for me. It could be absolutely different magazines but I prefer some popular scientific and men's magazines so.

Our family subscribed this magazine in the Soviet times. Much has changed since then, and frankly speaking it is rather difficult to recall what I read back then.

Remarks: prefer something to something else

You know I am not an expert at all as well. That is why my writing sounds unnatural too. I don't have any idea how I can make my speech and writing sound natural, however, at least we can work at grammar and use of words. We can learn as many collocations and phrasal words as possible in order to make up proper sentences in terms of grammar at least. Next we will learn by heart natural native speeches and remember some idioms which they usually use to soun more natural.

Belka_Teacher, oh, you're really kind:)) Maybe one day I can send you some issues of women magazines in Italian and Greek? If you want, of course. I think they are a great way of improving reading skills, since the language used is not too difficult and the articles follow a pattern which makes it easy to guess what they are going to write about, if you have read similar things in your own language.

How I ordered the Guardian from the UK for free.
I really like reading the Guardian. It was about ten years ago when I learned how to order it for free. There was a special feature on their site that allowed you to order one free copy. ( Apparently , it was a part of their marketing plan). You could order just one copy and after that your e-mail was blocked , so that you wouldn’t be able to order any more.
So f#cking what? I just created a new e-mail every week and got a new paper edition of the newspaper straight from the UK. It went on for about 2 years. Unfortunately, they realized that there were too many smartasses like me in the world & cancelled this free copy option for good.
I still keep heaps of the Guardian in my shed .)
