Why? I think a good poet can turn everything into poetry. Why not his lovely hands?Easy-Breezy English пишет: ↑05 июл 2019, 11:26 Whoa! That'll teach Pavel to post his lovely poetry here.
I'm afraid that's the last of it we've seen for a while.

VictorB,
Actually,it's not what I meant.
Similar to female assets, mentioned by VictorB
male genitalia is often refereed to as his assets as well,
hence my post # 82 )

tourist,
His or her assets=their secondary sexual structures, to be politically correct in trying to define the meaning. Besides, nowadays you can't be too sure. I mean the nicks at forums. To me, both interpretations are extremely funny (ha-ha) in the context of Pavel's overzealous vaunt. Thanks for elucidating your point.

VictorB,
I was given a warning recently on another (predominantly American) forum just for pointing out
that an excessive use of singular they is making it difficult to parse the message.
That particular poster was bending over backwards virtue signalling his PCness moral superiority.
The guywas complaining about one of his customers, who was obviously a male,
this person [sic] think that they are entitled to .. whatever = freakin' double PC
The world we have to live in these days ..
tell me about it ..to be politically correct

The world doesn't care about what you (generic you) think. Either you make your peace with the fact that all around you is subject to continual change and teach yourself to adapt to changing circumstances as you grow older or you just become a grumpy grandpa who lives in the past, doesn't really udestand the present and is fearful of the future.
Btw, how old are you?

mustang,
reread your post twice... didn't find any supporting smilies..
The moment I feel unable to recognise irony/sarcasm will be the end of me.
Am I supposed to take that literally ?
We're about the same age.

Why not? Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the generic pronoun "they", no do I believe that life today (or people for that matter) is worse than it used to be 20 years ago or half a century ago.Am I supposed to take that literally ?
Hm, fellow millenial!? Or a 50 something guy who thinks that the world will end tomorrow?

You’ve never been currying favours,
Yet life’s now regaining its flavor.
And now you are being renowned
In every place, milieu and venue.
What straits are ahead, you may wonder?
What’s waiting for you at the corner?
Imponderable to be pondered,
Unconquerable to be conquered.
Hold on to the things you’ve held dearly,
Then – cast them aside. Life’s beginning.
This freedom is so overwhelming,
Imbuing your life with new meaning.
Yet life’s now regaining its flavor.
And now you are being renowned
In every place, milieu and venue.
What straits are ahead, you may wonder?

Just re-wrote the last part of the verse above.
With ample time to think clearly,
And plenty of roads to pursue,
Latch onto the things, once held dearly,
Then – cast them aside. Start anew.

paveltashkinov,
I dare to suggest, for the sake of the rhythm, changing "ample" to "plenteous", and "plenty of" to "copious", and "once held" to "you hold".
MHO :-)

The gentle ripple of the waves wakes you up from your lethargy and your world-weariness. The warmth of the rocks crumbling under your boots makes you think of the places yet to be seen, and to yearn for them.
Stretching as far as the eye can see, the blue of the lake carries your soul away, and you forget the regrets and misgivings of your misspent youth. A gust of wind brings a smell of fish and pine needles, and it fills your soul with both a sense of contentment and an insatiable craving for life. Suddenly, the Sun is enshrouded by a chain of low-hanging leaden clouds drifting from over the mountains. The water takes on a dark metallic tinge, as if it were the mercury spilt by some mythical giant, now lying dormant in one of the caves on the opposite shore. As you watch these clouds fly by, you feel aloof and infinite.
Not so far away, a flock of gulls hovers above the lake, and you hear their shrieks taper off and dissipate in the warm air of the evening. Heaving a sigh of relief, you realise it’s time you moved along. You grab your backpack and trudge down the slope, back to the city that you have briefly escaped from.

paveltashkinov,
An enjoyable piece of descriptive writing I somehow missed reading earlier.
One point that left me puzzled is how you, booted, could feel the warmth of rocks crumbling under your feet:-)
It's been quite a while since you posted here last. Is...hm... Calliope still with you?

VictorB,
Well, I've been here, there and everywhere, doing all sorts of things. By and large, this summer was one of the weirdest, hardest and funniest. In hindsight, everything seems to have been...how to put it? So harmonious, well-aligned, easy and natural. Wouldn't have it any other way.

The summer hubbub burst like bubble.
It’s gone. Watch autumn take its reign.
Then, feel a spark within. It’s lasting
Amidst the days, afore mundane.
The trees, enshrined in orange haze,
The forlorn quayside that we stand on,
Make me forget the summer days,
Yet, nonetheless, leave me withdrawn.
It is your smile upon your leaving
That staves off mornings and their chills,
That gives me a foretaste of evening
With herbal tea and headache pills.
Bereft of which, the days are gloomy,
And neither are the nights as warm
As when your passion passes through me
Like veritable thunderstorm.

Relax with a nice cup of tea!
How many of us look forward to a soothing cup of hot tea at the end of the working day! Why is it that in so many countries tea is drunk not only to refresh us, but also to help us calm down after a stressful experience? The truth is that tea contains chemicals that induce a feeling of well-being. Research has shown that green and white tea, in particular, are conducive to relaxation due to their low levels of caffeine. They contain the amino acid L-thianine, which evokes a sense of calm in the brain, yet without a feeling of drowsiness
Yoga for stress relief
Should you crave solitude, solo relaxation techniques such as meditation, will give you the tools to quieten your mind. If, however, you lack the self-discipline to maintain a regular programme, a class setting may help you to stay motivated. It would be better to avoid power yoga, with its physically demanding poses and focus on fitness, as classes that emphasize slow, steady movement and gentle stretching are best for chronic stress relief. Consider your level of fitness and any medical issues before joining. There are many yoga classes for different needs. If in doubt, consult a specialist.
The two texts shed light on some means of relaxation. Text 1 highlights the benefits of tea. Text 2 gives an insight into yoga classes, enumerates the available options, as well as warns the reader about some features inherent thereto that have to be factored in before considering membership.
The multifarious effects of tea have been known throughout centuries. According to scientific data, the vast array of chemicals present in tea leaves has multiple effects. While some of them help us relax after a particularly tedious day, others vivify us and help us recharge our batteries. It may be said that coffee and caffeinated beverages serve that purpose as well. However, their stimulating effects wean off and only exacerbate our drowsiness. Since tea does not have this side effect, it is more favourable for soothing our nerves.
Nowadays, yoga is regarded as the be-all-and-end-all, the magic bullet that is bound to assuage our stress. It is enjoying tremendous popularity, with a plethora of classes available on the market. However, newcomers may be misled by this variety and choose the classes that will do them more harm than good. Therefore, it is important that any aspiring yogi seek medical advice before joining such courses.
While both tea and yoga have a proven track record as the means of relaxation and stress relief, we should not ascribe omnipotence to either of them. Although the proverbial cup of tea a day may keep the doctor away, it is unlikely to help us tackle chronic stress. Nor should we pin all our hopes on yoga. Indisputably, yoga exercises are worth being woven into the fabric of our routine. However, their efficiency after the onset of chronic stress has been repeatedly called into question. Concluding, there can’t be any straightforward universally applicable solutions insofar as stress relief is concerned.
What should be born in mind, though, is that prevention is always easier than cure. Although it is impossible to completely avoid the conditions leading to chronic stress, we should try our best not to overload ourselves, and that is exactly where yoga and tea may lend us a helping hand.

paveltashkinov, nice to have you back. :-) I missed your texts.
Are you thinking of changing jobs? Practicing your copywriting or something? :-)
Anyway, I'm going to go weave a cup of tea into the fabric of my evening routine. I'm not feeling vivified enough. LOL
