In my endless, yet so far hopeful a pursuit of a higher English proficiency, I've already said that to myself a thousand times, and I say it again and again almost every day. And there's no end of what's going to make me say that a thousand times more in future.

As for this post, what I mean are Russian phrases which English equivalents may appear quite surprising to a learner. The same goes for English phrases and their Russian equivalents.

Before providing some examples, I should tell you that I've been taking those while passing through the English Trainer 7400 CP program, which I find a very helpful tool to further my English on one hand and to level-up the language intuition on the other. It's a free program, easily downloadable, and very entertaining, and I just love it. (Together with Which is English and How Strong is Your Vocabulary online games.)

What I suggest right now, is sharing the examples of most unexpected translations from English into Russian, and vice versa, of the phrases that might fit the title of this pos—regardless of where they come from.

Here are a few examples from the program:

Criminal conversation
1.Прелюбодеяние
2.Блатной жаргон
3.Преступный сговор
4.Совещание криминалистов

Hear the news at the bottom of the hour
1.Слушайте новости о событиях этого часа
2.Слушайте новости в конце часа
3. Слушайте новости в середине часа
4. Слушайте новости в начале часа

Он сидит в проходе
1. He sits at the aisle
2. He sits in the aisle
3. He sits on the aisle
4. He sits to the aisle

Позвоните мне на работу
1.Ring me up to the office
2. Ring me up in the office
3. Ring me up at the office
4. Ring me up the office

P.S. Unfortunately, at my level of English proficiency, not so high yet to judge accurately on the reliability of the program, once in a while I check the answers somewhere else and so far I haven't found any serious flaws in the program's answers. So, I also need an opinion on its reliability given by really proficient members of this community.

I know nothing about English Trainer 7400 CP program ( in fact, it seems ungoogleable)

Criminal conversation..
Conversation is an old euphemism for sexual intercourse that is obsolete except as part of this term.
didn't know that

at the bottom of the hour means when the minute hand of the clock is facing down (near digit 6)
no problem with that

He sits on the aisle... well, сидеть в проходе vs. сидеть на проходе I guess )
ring me up = call me at the office .. pretty standard phrase
I'd never have known what exactly it meant hadn't I chanced to know it
OMG )

It was not that obvious to me: the beginning of the hour seemed to make sense (

tourist, Mary May,
What about this one:

Я нехорошо с ним поступил
I did badly to him
I did badly at him
I did badly by him
I did badly on him

VictorB,
-not that I actually need it, but your link to the program doesn't work for me.

-Conversation is an old euphemism for sexual intercourse that is obsolete except as part of this term.

now that I've known it -> now that I've learned it ... sorry, really grates on the ear.
