we've signed the docs that supplement our main contract without any specific ending date, which means that we may continue working online next semester.
Of course, it was all unexpected, so it was a bumpy ride, but our uni has some XP with online education. That's why we had a uni site with courses where we could put up all the materials & tasks for students. We could use the uni Mirapolis, but we were also allowed to work in Zoom/Skype/Discord. What's more, I could also utilise different resources such as a personal site, learningapps, miro, loads of google tools, screencasting tools. At the end of the day, I feel it was quite efficient in the given circumstances.
Which one (if you don't mind my asking)? Our uni distance learning platform runs on moodle just like my site; they've just created some customised designs instead of basic templates I use.
My uni also didn't buy Zoom accounts. Either you wworked for free, like I did, with a 40-min limit, or you bought an account for yourself, or used Mirapolis (which I didn't want to use because:
+ no breakout rooms - I didn't want to do chain studying, sorry :)
I was working without video all the time, and it was my initiative. Big groups = no video = better sound & connection. + I was always demonstarting sth on the board.
Wow. I experienced nothing like that. On the contrary, our speaking classes were 40-50 mins long, so we did several speaking activities, rotated pairwork/groupwork with different ppl, so everyone had to be really focussed not to get lost. Yeah, I heard that some ppl tried eating or playing games, but actually it's no big deal - there are always some unfocussed Ss in a classroom, too, no matter what you do. Here it was even better: I could make a joke, other Ss would reprimand such ppl if they stalled the whole group, they'd fall behind once and wouldn't want to feel dumb next time :)
Tell me about it :)
Don't fret. I collect feedback at the end of the course, and you can't imagine how much most Ss miss real classes - some of their words would put tears in anyone's eyes. So, if a uni decides to continue it forever, I'm sure the backlash will be huge, at least from the linguists.
That's another matter entirely. Yes, I believe this could happen.
Yeah, tell this to Skyeng. ( I'm not happy with this online mode either, but we might just be stuck with it now. Ugh...
They must be ecstatic :)
Now is another cup of tea. In my region, there are still lots of covid cases. If this trend continues, of course, it's unsafe to start uni classes, especially speaking ones where everyone's sitting next to each other while spitting speaking all the time.Easy-Breezy English пишет: ↑11 июл 2020, 21:38 I'm not happy with this online mode either, but we might just be stuck with it now.
