Here is the sentence which I came across in a novel (the link to the passage provided at the bottom) and found somewhat odd to read:
As he had nearly every weekday for the past decade, Mike woke up at five in the morning.
It was the first time I'd met such a… castrated clause. I'd like to understand which verb (in p.p. form) is missing, wake up or do. I've been browsing the net for quite long to answer the questions, what that grammatic structure is and how it works, but to no avail so far. Also, I'd like to know if it could work, strange as it may sound, in the future tense, for example:
As he has nearly every weekday for the past decade, tomorrow Mike will wake up at five in the morning.
And lastly, can it be used only in writing, or can it be heard in speech too?

It's a case of Verb phrase ellipsis preceding the antecedent.
Verb phrase ellipsis
Verb phrase ellipsis (also VP-ellipsis or VPE) is a particularly frequent form of ellipsis in English. VP-ellipsis elides a non-finite VP. The ellipsis must be introduced by an auxiliary verb or by the particle to.

John can play the guitar; Mary can play the guitar, too.
He has done it before, which means he will do it again.
An aspect of VP-ellipsis that is unlike gapping and stripping is that it can occur forwards or backwards. That is, the ellipsis can precede or follow its antecedent, e.g.:

The man who wanted to order the salmon did order the salmon.
The man who wanted to order the salmon did order the salmon.
Swan-4:
4 ellipsis before complete form: If you can, call me . . .
Ellipsis normally happens when an expression is used for a second time, after the complete form has already been used once (see above examples). However, it can sometimes happen the other way round. This is common in sentences beginning with if.

It doesn't matter much which one you'll choose to restore.
As he had [done/woken] nearly every weekday for the past decade,
Probably done would fit better to avoid repetition.

Why not?

I'd say the specific intonation it requires makes it more than acceptable to be used in speech.
