"A Maigret Christmas" by Georges Simenon
1) Tomorrow, I shall sleep in.
to sleep in = to sleep past the time you usually get up.
2) And Madame Meigret had taken him at his word...
to take sb at their word = to believe that what somebody says is true.
3) ...to have a confused, rather maudlin dream.
maudlin = extremely emotional and sentimental; tearful.
4) ...and it had left him in a state of heightened sensitivity. //

Monday-morning quarterback
“This is a good start,” Mr. Johnson said. “Could things be done in a more perfect way? The mayor and I can always Monday-morning quarterback and figure out ways that we could get it done in a better way.”

I couldn't even imagine that some spelling issue could be such a big one.
Misha Collins on the spelling of the diminutive form of his character's name
1) social media feeds
feed = an Internet service which updates often so that electronic information sources (such as blogs or social media accounts) are presented in a continuous stream to show the latest information
2) a very vitriolic response
vitriolic = full of anger and criticism.
3) …and I rushed in to defend myself
rush in = to do sth without proper consideration or preparation.
However, most of the dictionaries show the phrasal verb 'rush into (doing) sth. I don't know but maybe 'rush in to do sth' is common just where the actor lives.
4) …they were being driven apart over this issue
drive apart ((sb) over sth) = to make sb separated and less friendly because of sth.
Actually, there is no definition in all monolingual dictionaries. According to babla.ru, the translation is 'разделить'.
5) find a common ground
common ground = something that you share with other people (such as interests and so on).
6) … and this little point can drive a wedge between us if we don't bridge the gap
drive a wedge between = to cause people to have disagreement or anger between them.
bridge the gap = to do or create something that makes the difference between two things/points/extremes smaller and show that they have something in common.
7) …easy for me to take a sort of a leadest vantage point on this and say…
vantage point = a high place from where you have a good and clear view of sth.
8) fictitious character
fictitious = not really existing; not true or real.
9) …I've been brainwashed…
brainwash sb into sth = to make a person or people believe that something is true by using methods not allowing people think clearly and often repeating information
10) such a reputable source
reputable = able to be respected and trusted by many people.
11) I never allowed myself to give internal voice to that perspective
perspective = a particular point of view; from my perspective = from my point of view.
12) …doesn't mean that your spelling shouldn't be validated in some way
validate = to make sth officially accepted or approved
13) I am going to make a commitment to you right now
commitment = a promise or willingness to do sth
14) I would be willing to serve as an emissary here…
emissary = a person sent on a mission to represent another person or organization, take part in discussions.
15) I feel like that kind of transcends the whole "S" issue…
to go beyond or rise above the usual limits of sth.
16) …thank you for voicing your opinions
voice your opinion = express your opinion.
17) …I don't wanna diminish people's passion on this issue
diminish = reduce the importance/size of sth; become less in importance/size.
18) It's so nice to step back and embrace the whole picture…
embrace sth = see, use, and accept sth enthusiastically
19) I haven't actually done due diligence on this…
due diligence = the action that a reasonable person takes to avoid harm to other persons or keep their property safe.
20) …whether there was an iteration of the spelling of the short form…
iteration = the action or process of doing something repeatedly, usually to improve it.
21) …I wish […] I could speculate on that point
speculate = to make guesses about sth: to form ideas or theories about sth especially when a lot of things are not known about it.
22) I think I have to wrap this up shortly…
wrap sth up or wrap up sth = to end or finish sth.
23) ...glad I'm not caught in that vortex of insensitivity
vortex = a mass of spinning liquid or air, that pulls things into its center = (fig) a dangerous situation in which you get involved and from which it is difficult or impossible to escape.

Oh, I should have looked the word up there too. Thanks!
But the general idea of 'embrace' is clear - охватить/объять or something)

bridge the gap наводить мосты

Am I right about if SOED stands for Shorter Oxford English Dictionary?
I was just wondering if there is the online one because it has the definition which isn't in the other dictionaries.
Online Oxford English Dictionary doesn't have the definition or I've simply missed something?

Yes, it does. It is one of the two largest one-volume dictionaries of the English language. The second one is Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged by Merriam-Webster. I have SOED in paper and digital form. I don't know if there is the online version of SOED, but I do know that there is a version of this dictionary for GoldenDict.Zlatko_Berrin пишет: ↑25 мар 2019, 21:20 Am I right about if SOED stands for Shorter Oxford English Dictionary?
Correction: of course, SOED consists of two volumes, but they can be treated as a single unit. That was the reason why I called this dictionary "one-volume".

You're gonna Monday-morning quarterback this thing?
take pity on sb - (по)жалеть кого-либо
to feel sorry for someone and try to help them
So it's a rendezvous spot? -
