chain mail - кольчуга.
Я встретил в The First 48 Hours, S1, Ep 11.

from the good old Office
Everybody, I just got off the horn with corporate, and basically I told them where they could stick their overtime assignment.
get off the horn / get on the horn / be on the horn
= finish / have a conversation on the phone
second meaning, rule-breaker, is dated yet screamingly more evocative; calls for vulgarity-tinged punning which could actually be discerned if you decide to take a closer more imaginative look at the last clause in the above quote

The 'horn' in this idiom seems to refer to the vintage phone handset that resembled a horn or was made of horn (?) - like horn-rimmed eyeglass frames.Don't disturb me, kids, I'm on the horn to your father at the moment.
After our dreadful meal that night, I was on the horn to the manager the very next morning.
Old phone from 1900 with thin column and horn handset

ищу эквивалент к carry water for smb.
we don't know if he was just on a political mission, if he was essentially trying to carry water for someone else

deadnaming
misgendering
The act of deadnaming refers to using the birth name of a transgender person.
A dead name actually refers to anybody's original name, not just that of a transgender person, that has been changed.
For example, if a person was named Sarah at birth but later transitioned and asked to be referred to as Mark, "Sarah" is their dead name.
According to LGBTQ media guidelines, you should only ever use the name and pronoun the person provides.
You shouldn't use their former name or the wrong pronoun, unless they've given you explicit permission.

Deadnaming in transgender terms is usually accompanied by misgendering or using the wrong pronouns.
For example, referring to a trans woman as “he” or calling them a “man” is misgendering them.
Misgendering is offensive to transgender people and can impact their mental health and self-confidence.
People within the trans community are often subjected to nasty comments, particularly by trolls on social media, who deliberately, and repeatedly, misgender them.

to white-knuckle something
to survive something threatening through strained endurance, that is to say, holding on tight. The flight from New York was terrible. We had to white knuckle the entire flight.

Anyone who’s ever seen a CSI episode, read an Agatha Christie novel, or white-knuckled their way through a thriller in a movie theater understands that the key element of such stories is suspense.

Do you think it's close to 'tough it out'?
It's in the same semantic field as 'look down on sb' but the meanings cross only partially, I suppose.
P.S. Sorry if my attempts at connecting words bother you. It's just my way of trying to keep new and interesting words in my head :)

Juliemiracle, your comments are more than welcome.
I'd say that an act of "toughing it out" is more praiseworthy than an act of "white-knuckling it". Here's how I see it. When you tough it out, you show courage and determination when dealing with difficult circumstances. The key here is your toughness, resilience and hardiness. In contrast, white knuckles are a sign of fear and discomfort. When someone white-knuckles something, he or she barely has the skill and courage to handle it. The expression is closer to "flying by the seat of your pants". That said, I would not be surprised to see these expressions used interchangeably sometimes. Real usage has a way of defying my theorizing.

UPD. On second thought I think I see what you mean. One clings so tight that the knuckles turn white. You're right. But the main driver is fear.white-knuckle

then it's bit like faux amis because in Russian we have "костяшки пальцев побелели", but if I had to continue it, it would go sth like "от напряжения/от ярости". "От страха" would hardly come to my mind.

Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury:
Слово продолжает существовать в неизменном значении:

По моим правилам его следует знать, но я не знал. Наверно потому что недостаточно слежу за политическими баталиями.
