amanuensis [əˌmænju'en(t)sɪs]
(pl. amanuenses [-siːz]) a literary or artistic assistant, in particular one who takes dictation or copies manuscripts
amanuensis [əˌmænju'en(t)sɪs]
(pl. amanuenses [-siːz]) a literary or artistic assistant, in particular one who takes dictation or copies manuscripts
Origin: early 17th cent.: Latin, from (servus) a manu ‘(slave) at hand(writing), secretary’ + -ensis ‘belonging to’a person employed to write or type what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another, and also refers to a person who signs a document on behalf of another under the latter's authority.

word-forming element, from Old French -eis (Modern French -ois, -ais), from Vulgar Latin, from Latin -ensem, -ensis "belonging to" or "originating in."
courteous (adj.)
... from curt "court" (see court (n.)) + -eis, from Latin -ensis.

Sayuri was clear that she wanted to dictate her memoirs rather than write them herself, .... Sayuri chose me as her amanuensis, to be sure, ...

gaslighting
I'm being gaslighted/gaslit.
gaslight
3. (transitive) informal
to attempt to manipulate (a person) by continually presenting them with false information until they doubt their sanity
"in the first episode, Karen Valentine is being gaslighted by her husband"
"Feminists are often gaslighted into believing that holding their partners accountable for promoting gender equality is unreasonable" (Suzannah Weiss).
Word origin of 'gaslight' 3.
- from Patrick Hamilton's play Gas Light (1938), in which a husband attempts to drive his wife insane by insisting that the gaslight in their home is not becoming dimmer
- The term originates in the systematic psychological manipulation of a victim by her husband in the 1938 stage play Gaslight, known as Angel Street in the United States, and the film adaptations released in 1940 and 1944.[7]
Ingrid Bergman in the 1944 film Gaslight

cortege
https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?c ... ge%3B%2Cc0
a long line of people and cars taking part in a funeral
Macmillan Dictionary
https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dic ... q=cortege+
Хотя у Кембриджа вот там же пример из корпусаa slowly moving line of people or cars at a funeral
Cambridge Dictionary
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/ru/%D1 ... B9/cortege
В Google Ngrams funeral cortege vs wedding cortege значительно преобладает первый.All of those people in black suits, bridesmaids, the cortege with its almost comic realism, might compromise the powerful effect of the preceding scene.

'obstructed/limited/restricted view' tickets
https://support.tickpick.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007556294-What-does-it-mean-if-the-tickets-are-obstructed-view-or-limited-view- пишет:What does it mean if the tickets are “obstructed view” or “limited view”?
If tickets are marked as an “obstructed” or “limited” view, the venue has determined by the venue itself that those seats do not have a full view of the stage, field, court, ice, etc. Any of the aforementioned disclosures will be marked or printed on the ticket itself and sellers are required to note this on any ticket listings in the seller notes, which will automatically display the limited/obstructed view icon (eyeball with a slash through it).

criminally
This youtuber is criminally undersubscribed.
This book is criminally underread.

From 'Suits'
-- ... trying not to set off the pregnant woman who ...
-- Oh, so now I'm crazy!
-- Yes!
-- Then maybe I should check myself into a nuthouse and stop making your life so miserable!

Zlatko_Berrin,
and a crazy person is a nutcase.
+ if someone's angry (especially due to worrying), you can say that he did his nut.
