Одно из последних запомнившихся и показавшихся симпатичным- manspreading - the practice of a man sitting on public transport with his legs wide apart, taking up more space than he needs and preventing other people from sitting down
The subway authority ran a poster campaign against manspreading.

buy it
1. Suffer a severe reversal, as in If they can’t raise the money in time, they’ll buy it. [Slang; mid-1900s]
2. Be killed; die. For example, By the time we could get to the hospital, he had bought it. Originating during World War I as military slang, this term later was extended to peacetime forms of death. A later slang equivalent is buy the farm, dating from about 1950. For example, He’ll soon buy the farm riding that motorcycle. According to J.E. Lighter, it alludes to training flights crashing in a farmer’s field, causing the farmer to sue the government for damages sufficient to pay off the farm’s mortgage. Since the pilot usually died in such a crash, he in effect bought the farm with his life.
3. Believe it; see BUY SOMETHING.
Встречал to buy the farm у Roald Dahl в Over to You, а теперь читаю Starship Troopers by R.A.

That reminded yety (about pets): send [the dog] to the farm, go to (live) on a farm (upstate) as a euphemism for 'euthanasia'Phrase buy the farm "die in battle," is from at least World War II, perhaps a cynical reference to the draftee's dream of getting out of the war and going home, in many cases to a peaceful farmstead. The simple term buy it as slang for "suffer a mishap," especially "to die" is attested by 1825, and seems to have been picked up in airmen's jargon. Meanwhile fetch the farm is prisoner slang from at least 1879 for "get sent to the infirmary," with reference to the better diet and lighter duties there.

"It cushions the blow."

Согласно Urban Dictionary, hangry значит "When you are so hungry that your lack of food causes you to become angry, frustrated or both."
TED talk: Anne Curzan: What makes a word "real"?

Persnickety is the American word for fussy, fastidious, or highly detail-oriented. Pernickety is the British word. The British spelling is older, with the earliest known instances dating from the early 19th century. Its exact origins are mysterious, though it may be related to the Scots pernicky. The American spelling dates from the late 19th century.

Например, открыла для себя выражение "that's the lot"=it's all.
