The World According To Clarkson?

QwestDay,
I have never read anything by him.
Used to watch Top Gear (a car show) until the leftist BBC fired him
(basically killing the show in the process)
A no-nonsense highly sarcastic dude with a great sense of humour.

Thanks for the tip.

Hi there! What's the meaning of phrase "cop a shop" in

You can bop till you drop in Ibiza or cop a shop in London.

The Internet offers only "shop with a cop".

Frankly speaking, I have no idea, but off the top of my head I would connect it with London being a popular shopping destination. If cop is get/buy, then cop a shop may well mean buy a lot of things.

Eager Beaver, yeah, I was thinking about shopping too, but regarding it's Clarkson who wrote it, it could've been about police stations.

You think police stations are the one thing about London that makes it attractive to Americans? :) Clarkson names the most popular attraction of each listed city/country (what the place is known for, what makes people want to go there). Shopping fits. Police stations... well, not really. I might be wrong, though.

Btw, on the very same page, you can see this:
Yes, I know that's before America joined the war, but judging by the movie Pearl Harbor, they don't.

It's "to cop a shop" here, not "a cop shop", otherwise the answer would be obvious.

It sounds like he's just trying to make it rhyme with bop till your drop. It's not a set phrase.
I would think it means to go shopping, especially window shopping.

(For English version - scroll down)

Advanced Grammar in Use by Martin Hewings

- изложения - точные и сжато-информативные определения;

And the same in English:
Having collected a host of books and printouts on English, it is increasingly annoying me that I haven't studied them yet.. As I don't have any free time, I'm looking for ways to do at least something.. Here is what I did:

While on a trolleybus on my way home, I've got some free time. For last few years I've been listening podcasts. But yesterday I've bought a clipboard, attached to it a highlighter, a pen and several Units of Advanced Grammar in Use by Martin Hewings. And in last two days I've studying Unit a day. Here's what I think about it: it's brilliant! Some details:
- I love the concise definitions and explanations;
- I love the content - it consists of really advanced grammar points;
- I love the way answers are constructed - they mention possible or suggested options;
- I love a suitable divide between general points (at the end) and advanced ones in Units.
I hope I'll be able to have studied at least a half of it by the end of this year (dream on...)
(You are welcome to correct any eye-bleeding mistakes)

QwestDay пишет: 03 июл 2020, 21:35 correct any eye-bleeding mistakes)
the following is not not exactly eye-bleeding,
rather it just upsets my extremely delicate aesthetic sensitivities
and insults my unmatched sense of language. )

- host of books ->possible but is rather obsolete

- it is increasingly annoying me that ->
better:
It feels quite frustrating or just leave me out altogether

- As I don't have any free time -> due to the lack of spare/free time

- While on a trolleybus on my way home ->
I'd say: On my way home from work ...
I also don't like trolleybus ,
I'd rather use bus instead (not a mistake, just a personal preference: too exotic)

- For [the] last few years...

- But yesterday I've bought
no way Mr Murphy, aka Mr Hewings would approve that ...

- attached to it a pen -> attached a pen to it

- I love a suitable divide ? needs rephrasing

The rest is not too bad.)

a shelffull / shelf full of books,even shitload of books )
but, as I said ... not a biggie.
