Amazing facts. This was when Britain first "RickRolled" the Eurovision. (No, it is NOT a mistake)
СпойлерПоказать
This was when Britain next Rickrolled the Eurovision without Matt Aitken:
СпойлерПоказать
This is the actual Rickroll song. It was NOT in the Eurovision.
СпойлерПоказать
For those that don't understand the connection, the production team behind the RickRoll song were Stock/Aitken/Waterman.

S/A/W were responsible for all these songs except as i said Aitken was not involved with one of them.

S/A/W reformed in recent times for a one off Kylie Christmas remix (not on Eurovision):

This is officially the UK's worst ever Eurovision entry. It got no points at all!

Our current entry:

One of our pervy entries:

When we actually won:

It is also famous for the skirt-ripping routing at 2:33

This didn't win but was one of our most commercially successful entries:
СпойлерПоказать
One of our "ethnic" entries:
СпойлерПоказать
When we sent a lot of black people (and a white man):

When it came last our commentator resigned live on air.

In the past we actually sent famous people:
СпойлерПоказать
This was the person that wrote our Eurovision entry last year performing it. She was NOT the one that performed it at the Eurovision.
СпойлерПоказать
This was the Eurovision performance by a different singer.
СпойлерПоказать
The was the first time the UK won the Eurovision.
СпойлерПоказать
This was the last time we won:

Once one of our then famous topless models tried unsuccessfully to represent us with this:

Anyway enough Eurovision stuff for now.

Welcome back, Cliff. I hope you stay for long this time. This forum will not be complete without at least one native speaker, and chaika is probably not going to appear. :)

Based of the number of SMS messages voting, not too many people are interested in Eurovision IMHO. At least not among those studying foreign languages :)

Since the Eurovision has turned into a 3-hour-long annoying song in English I can't watch it.
I liked it when the contestants performed in their native languages.

I couldn't agree more. I really enjoyed Eurovision in 2000 and so grateful for “Brainstorm” with the song “My Star”. Was one of my favorite back then. Almost fell in love with the lead singer)))) But now it’s boooooring (((

Almost everything I used to love watching has become either too commercialized or too politicized - the Olympics, the Oscars, to say nothing of Eurovision.

Yes, the Olympics used to be about sport until we made it about pop music. (Re: 2012 ceremonies)

By the way re : Eurovision, you possibly find this impossible to believe but the title of the 2003 entry we sent was "Don't Play That Song Again"

People didn't generally. (Play it again)

Well, now I know what that's called. It seems I was rickrolled by tv show hosts at least twice without even realizing it :) There was lots of laughter in the audience, but I was at a loss as to what was so funny about that clip. Having been unable to figure anything out by myself, I just had to let it go. But after stumbling upon your message, it dawned on me what all that had been about. Thanks for the hint. Now I'm prepared ;)

After Konchita's performance in 2014 I've got no intention to watch Eurovision anymore

I'm a bit late to this reply.
I would have voted for Conchitta in 2014 in spite of his appearance.
In my honest opinion it was the best vocal performance on the night.
If you had heard the show on the radio and knew nothing about what he looked like, you might have voted for it too.
Kenny Everett in the UK did what Conchitta did years ago in terms of the singing bearded lady thing:

Oh Noooo, my eyes!!!

I appreciate your opinion and agree that he had the best vocal performance, but if I met him in real life, I wouldn't shake hands with him (it). There are a lot of normal homosexuals who look and behave like normal people. For example, in the movie "Philadelphia" Tom Hanks and Antonio Banderas play the role of normal ones. They didn't get irritated me at all.

Conchitta's appearance is much worse than to be just a gay
